Science Teacher (Grades 7-12)

About the role

San Juan del Sur Day School, an internationally accredited English-language day school in Nicaragua serving students from preschool through high school, is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Middle and High School Science Teacher. The position is full-time and on-site, teaching science courses across Grades 7-12, including General Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess engaging, standards-aligned lessons that promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving and hands-on learning.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment and facilitate laboratory activities and experiments.
• Monitor student progress and give meaningful feedback to support student achievement.
• Contribute to curriculum development, interdisciplinary and project-based learning, and school activities.
• Communicate regularly with students and families and take on student advisory responsibilities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a closely related field.
• Previous experience teaching middle or high school students, with classroom management skills and effective instructional practice.
• Strong English communication skills; Spanish is an advantage.
• Ability to work with students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and to differentiate instruction.
• Willingness to contribute to school improvement initiatives and extracurricular activities.
• Preferred: currently based in Nicaragua or willing to relocate to San Juan del Sur.

Required skills

• Designing standards-aligned lessons and meaningful assessments, using student performance data to guide instruction.
• Inquiry-based instruction, project-based learning, laboratory activities and hands-on scientific exploration.
• Collaboration, organization and communication within a teaching team.
• Preferred: teaching certification, experience in bilingual/international/multicultural schools, and experience integrating technology into science instruction.
