Cook / Server – Healthcare Kitchen

About the role

The Cook/Server is responsible for managing and operating the kitchen when the Dietary Supervisor is absent. This position ensures safe, sanitary food preparation and service for residents in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
• Prepare tasty meals in large quantities, following menus and portion‑control guides.
• Accurately prepare special diets, pureed foods, and record food temperatures.
• Assist with serving meals and ensure appealing presentation.
• Supervise kitchen operations in the Dietary Supervisor’s absence.
• Report resident care concerns to the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
• Follow cleaning schedules and maintain sanitizer solutions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of cooking experience in a hospital or long‑term care facility.
• Ability to read technical procedures, recipes, and interpret written or oral instructions.
• Strong problem‑solving and reasoning abilities.
• Good communication skills with staff across departments.

Required skills

• ServSafe certification (must obtain and maintain).
• Knowledge of food safety, temperature monitoring, and sanitation practices.
