Computer Scientist - Remote

About the role

BairesDev, a technology consultancy with more than 15 years of experience and a team of 4,000+ remote workers, is hiring a Computer Scientist. The role focuses on inference, ranking, matching, classification and optimization over datasets with hundreds of millions of entities and billions of relationships. It is not a backend, infrastructure or data engineering role: the main task is to formulate complex computational problems and design scalable algorithmic solutions that can be validated and deployed in production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms for inference, ranking, matching, classification and prediction problems.
• Create scalable heuristics operating on datasets with hundreds of millions of records.
• Analyze computational complexity and optimize systems for large-scale execution.
• Design evaluation methodologies and validation frameworks to measure solution quality.
• Transform ambiguous business requirements into well-defined computational problems.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to productionize algorithms and experiments.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science or close to completion.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain production-quality software.
• Ability to reason about scalability, computational complexity and performance tradeoffs.
• Comfort working on ambiguous, open-ended problems and turning them into well-defined solutions.
• Advanced proficiency in English.

Required skills

• Strong algorithms and data structures fundamentals.
• Strong programming skills, with Python preferred; other general-purpose languages welcome.
• Nice to have: graph algorithms and network analysis, information retrieval, optimization techniques, applied machine learning, probabilistic inference, large-scale data mining.
