Data Analytics Engineer

About the role

Toptal is a fully remote, data‑driven organization seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to build and own the transformation layer of its data warehouse. You will ensure data quality, governance, and usability for analysts and AI agents while collaborating closely with Business Analysts and Data Engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, write, review and ship SQL models that turn raw data into reliable data products for the whole company.
• Own the data transformation layer, monitor the warehouse, and proactively improve data accuracy, coverage, and structure.
• Translate ambiguous business requests into well‑defined data models, gathering requirements, establishing grain, and documenting business rules.
• Maintain the data dictionary and semantic layer, producing documentation consumed by both humans and AI agents.
• Diagnose and resolve data incidents, conduct code reviews, and support teammates to keep the production environment clean.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Scientists and process owners to enable data‑driven decision making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of experience shipping production data models as an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer or Data Analyst.
• Strong analytical mindset, critical thinking, and ability to work independently.
• Experience with cloud data warehousing (BigQuery or Snowflake) and modern transformation frameworks (dbt, Dataform, SQLMesh).

Required skills

• Expert‑level SQL.
• Proficient Python.
• Fluency with LLM‑based coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor).
• Version control with Git (branching, PRs, code review).
• Orchestration tools such as Airflow, Cloud Composer, Dagster or Prefect.
• Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau or Power BI.
