Asset Resolution Counsel

About the role

The Asset Resolution Counsel leads legal strategy and portfolio management for non‑performing commercial loans secured by real estate. Working closely with internal teams, outside counsel, and borrowers, the role balances recovery goals with legal risk and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor a portfolio of non‑performing real‑estate‑collateralized loans, including REO assets.
• Supervise, train, and develop staff within the Asset Resolution Department.
• Oversee commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and foreclosure activities, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Direct in‑house and outside attorneys, collection agencies, and other vendors supporting loss‑mitigation efforts.
• Negotiate settlement agreements, bidding instructions, and other loss‑mitigation solutions.
• Conduct financial and credit analysis of debtors and produce trend reports.
• Monitor related expenses and propose protective advances.
• Participate in budget preparation for the department.

Required profile

• Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school (preferred).
• Experience in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and real‑estate loss mitigation.
• Proven track record managing non‑performing loan (NPL) pools and REO portfolios.
• Strong analytical, financial, and judgment skills.
