Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will maintain the general ledger and oversee the monthly close for the organization’s operations in Nicaragua. Working closely with local, regional and global finance teams, the role ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance with Nicaraguan accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the monthly accounting close in Nicaragua, meeting a five‑business‑day deadline to support regional consolidation.
• Record transactions, perform bank reconciliations, prepare financial statements and coordinate supporting documentation.
• Review and analyze financial data for accuracy and compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
• Provide technical accounting guidance to internal clients and resolve complex accounting system issues.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports to aid business decision‑making.
• Train and mentor junior accounting staff, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with local, regional and global finance teams, as well as regulatory authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Active CPA license or equivalent professional registration in Nicaragua (mandatory).
• At least 5 years of solid experience in accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance and external audit.
• Experience interacting with government and regulatory entities, preferably in a non‑profit environment.
• Proven leadership experience managing finance teams.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong knowledge of Nicaraguan accounting, tax and regulatory standards.
• Expertise in using accounting software and ERP systems.
